"I don't want a baby," Maia grumbled. "I like things just the way they are."
"Me, too," said Monster.
When Mom tells Maia that the new baby will be her new best friend, Maia is skeptical. Then the babies are born. Though they gurgle, growl, scream and spit, they eventually win their way into their big sisters' hearts. Nonetheless, Maia and the Monster agree: "WE are the friends. THEY are the babies."
